The journey began when an Englishman was introduced to South African culture through his partner, Shannon. What started as an introduction to family traditions quickly became a deep appreciation for the country’s people, lifestyle, and especially its food.
Frequent trips to South Africa provided countless opportunities to experience one of the country’s most cherished traditions: the braai. Gatherings with friends and family often centred around good food, great company, and an impressive selection of homemade sauces. These sauces delivered flavours unlike anything commonly found in the UK — bold, smoky, spicy, fresh, and packed with character.
Returning home to England, the search for those same flavours led to experimentation in the kitchen. What began as an effort to recreate favourite sauces for family and friends gradually evolved into something much bigger. Batch after batch, recipes were refined until BOKKE Sauces was officially born.
The name BOKKE pays tribute to South Africa itself, drawing inspiration from the country’s beloved national rugby team. More than just a name, it represents the passion, pride, and spirit that helped shape the brand from the very beginning.
