Braai Broodjies: The Unsung Hero
The meat gets the applause. The braai broodjie wins hearts.
A proper braai broodjie is dangerous. Burnt fingers, molten cheese, tomato lava — but we keep going back.
White bread works best. Don’t get clever. Butter the outside generously. Inside: cheese (lots), tomato, onion, chutney. That’s it. If you add avo, we’re watching you.
Cook them slowly. Too fast and you burn the outside while the inside laughs at you. Turn often. Watch closely. This is not the time to wander off.
When done right, the bread crunches, the cheese stretches and someone always burns their mouth because they couldn’t wait.
It’s not a side. It’s a requirement.
